Reception and Update on the University

Please join Yale's twenty-third President, Peter Salovey, '86 PhD, at the Bruce Museum for a reception and an update on the university with question-and-answer session.  $50 per person includes cocktails and hors d'oeuvres.  The event opens at 6:30 pm with remarks at 7:30.  Click here to buy tickets.

Featured at the Bruce Museum is the exhibition Alfred Sisley (1839 - 1899): Impressionist Master, the first retrospective in the United States in over twenty years.  The Bruce Museum is the only U.S. venue and hosts the premiere of the show, comprised of about fifty paintings from private collections and major museums in Europe and North America, including The Seine at Bougival, 1872, from the Yale University Art Gallery.  For more, please visit the exhibition web site or read this New York Times article.  A private tour will be conducted by Deputy Director Susan Ball, '78 PhD, at 6:45 pm.  Trained docents will also be on hand to answer questions.

An alternative tour will be offered by Adjunct Curator Kenneth Silver, '81 PhD, of the new exhibition Canvas and Cast: Highlights from the Bruce Museum Art Collection.  Other exhibits, all open during the evening, are  Last Days of Pangea: In the Footsteps of Dinosaurs, Street Smart: Photographs of New York City, 1945 - 1980, and the ongoing Changes in Our Land.  Please refer to the museum's web site for details.

Susan Ball received her Yale degree in the History of Art and Architecture.  She is an educator, administrator, author, and editor who has volunteered extensively for Yale, including with the Association of Yale Alumni, Yale Day of Service, Yale Nonprofit Alliance, and the Graduate Student Assembly.  She has served on the boards of the Yale Graduate School Alumni Association and the AYA Board of Governors.

Kenneth E. Silver received his MA and PhD from Yale, which awarded his dissertation the Frances Blanshard Prize.  He is Professor of Modern Art at NYU and and authority on European and American art, as well as an active guest curator.  An author of numerous books and exhibition catalogs, he is also a contributing magazine editor and the recipient of multiple fellowships, grants, awards, and recognitions.  For Yale he has participated in Day of Service and several mentoring programs, and currently serves on the board of the Yale Graduate School Alumni Association.
